Zion and Beyond
November 1 -3, 2022 with optional 4th day into the Narrows
I am so excited to announce my upcoming workshop in Zion National Park! Zion is one of the most popular of the National Parks with over 5 million visitors in 2021, and for good reason. Zion canyon was carved by the Virgin River, leaving in its wake enormous sandstone cliffs that tower above you. The park is home to diverse wildlife, spectacular views, and a slot canyon experience like few others. I have had the great fortune of exploring Zion on numerous occasions after my parents chose to retire in a town near the park. My many trips to visit my parents have brought me back repeatedly to the park and I look forward to sharing some of my favorite photography locations with you.
This workshop will focus on some of the iconic views of Zion, as well as locations that are still (thankfully) off the radar and/or outside of the park. While many locations are close to the road or have a short walk to reach, others do require a bit of hiking. The shortest hike planned is approximately one mile round trip, while the longest is just short of 7 miles roundtrip and takes approximately 1 1/2 hours to get to the overlook and an equal amount of time to get back to the trail head. I cannot emphasize enough the need to evaluate your own physical fitness to determine if you are able to do these hikes. Some of the planned hikes include:
-
Watchman Trail - rated moderate - 3.3 miles round trip;
-
Emerald Pools - rated easy to moderate - 1.2 miles round trip;
-
Canyon Overlook Trail - rated moderate - 1 mile round trip; and
-
East Mesa Trail - rated moderate - 7 miles round trip.

In an effort to keep the cost for this workshop down, and to give you the flexibility to
control some of the cost, the following items are not included in the cost for the workshop:
- Airfare to southwest Utah
- Lodging (although I do recommend the Best Western located in La Verkin, UT or any of the
various accommodations in Springdale, UT)

your meals around those times and bring snacks with you)
